Course Summary

Course Goal:

Equip citizens with the knowledge and tools to effectively engage in advocacy, hold political leaders accountable, and take action in their communities to protect democracy.

Objective: Learn the most effective ways to communicate with elected officials, advocate for policy changes, and hold them accountable.

Course Curriculum

Dr. Charles Loftland

Charles is a 30-year educator and community change agent, retired U.S. Air Force construction/training manager (water systems and environmental support), and co-founder of the Uplift Institute. He advances sustainability through education, workforce development, and equitable, regenerative infrastructure. He holds a BS in Workforce Education (SIU–Carbondale), an MA in Urban Sustainability (Antioch LA), and an EdD in Educational Sustainability (UW–Stevens Point), and lives in California.

Bing Rethy

Bing is an international educator, focusing on conversational English and cultural understanding for learners of all ages and backgrounds. She holds a Masters of International Affairs from the University of San Diego.
